CO says: I wondered if tomatoes are fruits or vegetables because I thought they were both. So KI tweeted to Wonderopolis with our question.

AND THEY ANSWERED US!! Here is the message they gave us:
@MrsCiampaClass This is a hot debate, Mrs. Ciampa! Check out our Wonder all about this fruit...or vegetable! :) http://t.co/uGEEHrJQYd

They answered with a long explanation. Here is what we learned:
-MD says: Tomatoes are vegetables because we eat them in our meal.
-CW says: We learned that tomatoes can't be a dessert because we don't normally eat tomatoes in our dessert.
DL says: BUT in other countries like Punta Cana they do put tomatoes in their dessert.
FF says: Tomato cannot be a dessert because it doesn't go well with dessert.
MD says: We eat fruit in our dessert.
KI says: Tomatoes don't go well in desserts for example ice cream, lollipops and candy apples don't taste well with tomatoes.
CO says: Tomatoes don't taste good on snacks like ice cream.
NN says: Tomatoes can be used on pizza.
AW says: When you order pizza, people put tomato sauce on it and eat it as a meal.
HH says: The article says anything that has seeds are fruit. That is what my sister said too.
What has seeds? apples, strawberries, watermelon, kiwis, orange, bananas, dragon fruit, cantaloupe, pears, pineapple, grapes, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, cherries, red peppers, green peppers, yellow peppers, orange peppers AND TOMATOES!!!!
CW says: Usually things that grow in the ground are vegetables.
Here is our vote:
How many people think tomatoes are a fruit? 1
How many people think tomatoes are a vegetable? 9
How many people say both? 3
